Beware of Falling Coconuts
Friday, March 28, 2008

So the other day, wednesday to be exact, i went for a bbq with the e37p folks. It was a small group but i think that was nice because it was so much more cozzier. nice to see them all again.
the bbq pit was situated directly under a coconut tree. hence there was a sign that said 'Beware of falling coconuts' - of course i found that entirely hilarious so i had to take a picture. ( excuse the clarity of the photo, i have a lousy phone)
Nan and i had to reach the pit early, because we had to pick the food up. and because we have such fantastic luck it starts to rain. so we camped in a hut with an unbrella on either side of us, reading universty prospects. ( well at least we were being productive) . once everybody arrived, it kicked off pretty nicely though.
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” - Howard Thurman
I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
I was made for you

And so it goes...

so today i went to school today, for he first time since school closed. i needed to pick up my transcripts which they made me pay $10.70 for. I don't understand the logic here, they making me pay 10 bucks, for a RP LOGO, on a WHITE sheet of paper that has my OWN damn results on it and they also made me WAIT 5 working days. any avenue they can find to make money they will i guess.

so anyway, i went visit my fantastic people in their respective labs coz i missed them.(awwwwe...is'nt that sweet) i really did.(i also needed to take money from them but that is besides the point) but they were too busy to layan me. damn fyp. mine has'nt really gone into full blast yet. imagine when it does and school reopen, that's it, i'm never gonna see any of them!!! oh well. ( for goodness sake woman u are being dramatic)

then i went to the library. been wanting to do that for awhile. been feeling a desperate urge to read something. so i found me the thickest and potentially the least boring book there.

and now i am off to read that thick and potentially interesting book.

Today

Today i woke up and decided to decorate my FYP log book. haha. it looks pretty now. i'm proud of myself. After all, i have to stare at it for the rest of the year.

and then i watched 'Back to the future'. love that show. it's the best.

and then, it was time to go house hunting. My house has gone en-bloc. i don't want to move. I love my house. it is big and conveniently located. but i have no choice. they're gonna knock it down. unless i stage a protest and tie myself to the house when they bring in the bull douser. but anyway... on with the house hunting. we went to see, 3 places. in ang mo kio. i don't think we really liked any of them. hard to find a place with the space that we have now at the price we can afford especially with the housing prices so high. don't really feel like moving out of tampines.... but i guess it would be a nice change. been living in the east all my life.

and then, we headed to punggol, ( remind me, never to move to punggol. its like a ghost town.) My uncles' house warming.
You know that there are just some relatives that you really don't want to admit that you are related too??? this is the kind. Eeeeyeerr... just to eccentric for my tastes. and low and behold, he managed to find a wife that is just as bizzare. my goodness. the 2hrs there were absolute torture.

Woke up early today to have our first official fyp meeting. the team: me, nan, shakila, & gina, went to the national library to source out some books. nice library that place is, but the librarians and security guards are simply a pain in the arse. i'm still kinda sick. but, getting better. last night was the first night since a week that i did'nt wake up in the middle of the night, cough for two hours, gulp down cough syrup and pray for a miracle to knock me out again.

I just finished watching a bit of a dvd. PLANET EARTH. its a documentary. But wait, before you useless, uncultured and un-refined people go saying its a bore. Here me out. I swear, this series has the most stunning images, sequences, views that you will ever see. the pictures of landscapes a wildlife are just so vivid. this is the next best thing from actually being in the plains of Africa or the tundra of Antarctica and so on. everyone really has to watch this. and if watching these gorgeous shots doesn’t move you and take your breath away, then you've got your head screwed on the wrong way. time for re-wiring.

that's one of the things i really want to do. see the world. and sure i'd like to experience the cultures and the cities and the history of the people. but what would really be an experience, is to see, nature at all its glory. just to be there, breathe it in, breath taking sights, amazing wildlife, see it before its too late. that would be the epitome of accomplishment for me.

boy, am i in the wrong field here. biomedical science. doomed to look at bacteria all my life. i'm in the wrong country too for that matter. i remember when i was in thailand, god i loved it there. morning was the best, just before the noisy buch rose from sleep. everyday you wake up and the first thing that hits you is a sunrise peeking between the peaks of two high hills, over a misty river. family of ducks just waddling past. and then at night, the stars were so visible, its like you could see the entire universe and watching the stars fall you couldn’t help but make a wish or two. just still, quiet, gentle breezes, birds, water...no buildings, no cars, no people, all of which you'll never crave for again. that's the life right there babe.
but of course it would be naivety to not know that, that is NOTHING compared to other places of the world, where the sky is every colour you can think of and keeps on changing to give up a show.i could sit and watch that forever. i wanna be one of those wildlife researchers. that'll be so cool. maybe i'll have a mid-life crisis, gather up all my life savings and run away on safari.

okay then. i'm probably boring you useless, un-cultured and un-refined people anyway. so it's off to bed for me.

oh dear, i'm still sick. i carry around a tissue box wherever i go. i'm stuffing VICkS down my nose. the VICKS expired in 2002. seems
fine to me. Why should VICKS expire? but its okay, i'll live.

yesterday i went to watch spiderwick. it was nice. i like. maybe i shall go read the books.

microbiology module is giving me 100 bucks. this school very cheapskate. then only giving in june, so long. must charge interest.

i went to accompany my grandmother to TTH for checkup, then, the ambulance took 3hrs to come, so i was stuck there, miserably sitting in the waiting room.
and then...

my tp is on the 14th. yay.

well actually not yay. i'm probably gonna be a nervous reck. generally my driving is alright. no major, major mistakes. but its just those little things that get me. like those damn blindspots.(maybe i should write a reminder on my hand.) i really hope i pass the first time around because, frankly, i'm just sick of driving. which is ironic because, well, i am doing this so that i can drive everywhere but i prefer to be driven around.hopefully the traffic is kind to me on thursday. the stretch near yio chu kang MRT can be a tramautizing a times and ang mo kio in general is already ridiculously filled with people as it is. and all these people equate to many insane drivers thus acting as obstacles in my quest to pass this dumb test. I've gotta be there at 8:15am for warm-ups and registration. which is such an unholy hour. the actual test starts at 9:15am. (hopefully i am awake by that time).

so this is my offical plea, please stay off the roads of ang mo kio between the hours of 8:15am to 10:15am. stay home, take off from work, you need the rest. sleep in late. do not drive on it. do not walk on it. and if you have to walk on it for some life and death reason, please use the designated traffic lights. this is not india people. do not make me run u down.

well start praying for me people and if i don't screw it up, just maybe you'll have to walk a little less.

To do anything truly worth doing, I must not stand back shivering and thinking of the cold and danger, but jump in with gusto and scramble through as well as I can.

Drive
Sunday, March 2, 2008

So I almost died the other day.

So there I was driving. I was driving behind a truck and we were fast approaching a traffic light. There was a lady standing there. The light was red. But for some strange reason, she decided to cross. So the truck in front of me swerved to avoid her. He went on top of the pavement. Meanwhile, I was directly behind him. Luckily I was paying attention. I made an emergency stop but barely. We were bumper to bumper. Meanwhile the crazy bitch who almost killed us all is laughing and not at all running across the road.

the whole of last year i was complaining my life was too uneventful, and see la what has happened now.

Tell me why people. Why.

my tp is coming really soon. 14th march. i hope i do not cross paths with anymore suicidal maniacs.

But what do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there's solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?

Who Knows

I'm in like with
Not in love with you quite yet
My heart's beginning to
Slightly overrule my head

Oh no, oh no
My self control
It won't hold up for very long
Oh no, oh no
You touch my soul
I can't help falling too fast for you

Can you hold on a bit
Stop before we go
'cause I might need a moment
And I wouldn't wanna spoil it

Who knows if I am ready or not
Only time will tell
Who knows if we are ready to make this something
Who knows
